Though visitors to Siem Reap often visit one of the Tonle Sap’s floating villages, the area is home to several unique communities. For a one-of-a-kind experience, we take them on a trip to visit not one but two of the region’s picturesque villages.
The journey starts with a stop at Kompong Khleang, which is the furthest away (approximately a 1.25-hour drive from Siem Reap’s city centre) and also one the largest communities of the Tonle Sap. Next, it’s on to Kompong Phluck, which is 10 times smaller than Kompong Khleang. To reach the authentic village, guests board a boat that crosses the great Tonle Sap lake offering a chance to observe life along the waters.
This experience can be enjoyed either in the morning or in the afternoon. When done in the morning, guests can combine the tour with another excursion in the afternoon to either the Roluos Group Temples (Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko) or Beng Mealea. When done in the afternoon, we suggest combining the experience with a stop at Beng Mealea in the morning and ending with sunset at Bakong Temple.
Why we like this tour? It is always difficult to choose which of these two charming villages to visit, so now nobody gives travellers the opportunity to explore both but Diethelm Travel Cambodia. Plus, the peaceful ride on the huge fresh water lake is amazing! – Coralie Romano, Siem Reap Branch Manager
