Your journey begins with a drive through Thimphu Valley, the world’s only traffic-light-free capital, where the city’s modernity blends seamlessly with the ethnic architecture of 1952. You’ll visit historic sites, such as Changanghha Temple, Memorial Chorten, and the iconic Buddha statue at Kuensel Phodrang, where you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of the city. You can check out the Centenary Farmer’s Market, and take in a glimpse of the Tashichhu Dzong.
Immerse yourself in the beautiful landscape of Thimpu and make your way to the huge Jigme Dorji Wildlife Sanctuary. This is Bhutan’s biggest protected area, and it’s a biodiverse haven for endangered animals like snow leopards, red pandas and more. Check out the ancient monastery of Cheri goemba, which dates back to the 1620s, and then make a visit tp the Choki School of Arts, which teaches traditional arts and crafts to local kids.
Start your adventure at the historical site of Tashigang monastery which dates back to 1786 and embark on a 2-hour uphill trek to the 18th century Lungchutse lhakhang. Surrounded by lush forests of Rhododendrons, Magnolias, and other greenery, you will reach an incredible view of the whole Bhutan Himalaya before descending for 1 hour to the 108 chorten Dochula Pass where you will be able to see the Himalayan peaks clearly on clear days.
Experience the magic of culture and food with a trip to Punakha Dzong, a beautiful architectural wonder at the bridge between the Mo Chu and Pho Chu Rivers. Then, make your way to Yabesa and take a hike through the lush rice fields to the three-story Namgyal chorten, a symbol of Nyingmapa culture. Finally, explore traditional Bhutanese agriculture and cooking at a farmhouse in Lobese, and end your day with a stroll through the terraced rice fields before heading back to your vehicle.
Trongsa is the ancestral capital of the ruling dynasty of Bhutan. Begin your morning journey to the town by visiting the 18th-century Chendebji chorten. As you come to the town’s winding road, take a moment to admire the majestic Trongsa Dzong situated across a deep canyon.
Embark on a scenic trek to the scenic Phobjikha Valley, which is renowned as one of the most scenic glacial valleys in Bhutan. As you traverse the winding mountain roads, be captivated by the oak and Rhododendron forest that surrounds you. During the months of November to March, take advantage of the exceptional opportunity to observe the magnificent Black-necked Cranes at the Sanctuary of Phobjikha.
You have a choice between: Proceeding to Longtey Village, situated on the outskirts of Pelela, you will ascend a path through thickets of dwarf bamboo, birch, Rhododendron, Hemlock and fir, which are home to a variety of avian species. Upon reaching the Kaychela mountain pass, you will find a meadowland on the opposite side of the pass. From there, the journey continues to the Gangtey Village, which is situated on a long and picturesque stretch of meadows and agricultural land. or Hiking the Shasila trail, which was used by Sha Ngawang & Chitokha people to move between their summer & winter homes. For the casual trekkers, this trail takes around 3-4 hours to walk from Phobjikha to Khelaykha. Your driver will pick you up on the road and drop you off at Wangdue.
On your way back to Paro, you will have the chance to explore handicraft and souvenirs shops, as well as dine at a local eatery in the city. Following this, you will be able to visit the oldest Buddhist Dzong in Bhutan, Semtokha. If time permits, make a stop at Tamchhu Lchakhang, a Dzong constructed by the renowned Iron Bridge Builder, Tungkhu Gyalpo.
Experience the thrill of a morning excursion to Bhutan’s most renowned Buddhist Monastery, Taktsang, commonly referred to as “Tiger’s Nest”. Located on a steep cliff face, 900 meters above the Paro Valley, this three-hour hike provides breathtaking views. During the afternoon, visitors can explore the ancient ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong, which has been strategically located to protect the Paro Valley from incursions since 1646, and the stunning Mount Jumolhari.
