Delve into the Study of Sikhism

Share

Learn about the culture and religion of Punjabi people in Malaysia with an introductory explanation of Sikhism given by member of Gurdwara. Sikhs were brought by the British from India during colonial time and the Punjabi is now a small minority among the approximately two million Indians in Malaysia.

This tour is offered in the early morning, afternoon, or evening and begins with a visit to the Sikh Temple known as ‘Gurdwara’. This site is used for all kinds of occasions such as weddings, deaths, thanksgiving and more. Family members and volunteers prepare food for breakfast, lunch or dinner and all people are welcome to a free meal regardless of their sex, colour or religion. There are no rituals observed in the kitchen and everyone eats together. All the food is vegetarian so that no religious group is offended.

Mix with the local community, give a hand to prepare traditional bread, capati, cut the vegetables or help to wash the dishes. Afterward, proceed to the prayer room. If you are lucky, you may witness a colourful and cheerful Punjabi wedding.

After the prayers, have a meal at Gurdwara and continue your journey to Indian street in Kuala Lumpur for a Henna tattoo and some shopping. The tour ends with a transfer to your hotel.
