Hidden Workshops of Artisans d’Angkor (Diethelm Distinctive Experience)

Share

While many travellers visit the Chantiers-Ecoles while in Siem Reap, which is where many of Cambodia’s great artisans train, few get to experience the complete process of creation.

Today, there are 48 workshops (silk, stone and wood carving, lacquerware, gilding, ceramics, silver plating, silk painting and jewellery) operating in 12 sites located in Siem Reap province, providing employment to over 1200 people, including 800 artisans, many of which, over the last few years, had the privilege to be selected for the restoration of several parts of the historical Angkor site.

In an exclusive partnership with Artisans d’Angkor, Diethelm Travel Cambodia has the unique privilege to offer our clients the opportunity to visit three of those “hidden” workshops and see behind the scenes.

The 2.5-hour tours can be done at any time between 8:00 – 12:00 hours and  13:30 – 16:30 hours Monday through Friday. The experience ends with a cocktail in the Privilege Room at Chantiers-Ecoles and clients receive a USD 10 voucher to shop at the boutique.

Please note that, one of the stops is at the “Special Projects” workshop where the artisans create one-of-a-kind pieces for private individuals. During this part of the tour, photography is not allowed.

Why we like this tour? We go deeper into the works of traditional Cambodian craftsmanship and, very few people will be able to experience this as no other agency can offer this!  – Coralie Romano, Siem Reap Branch Manager
