You’ll be showered with elegance as you make your way to your accommodation in this charming former royal capital with its gorgeous temple spires, colonial buildings, and stunning mountain scenery. After breakfast, you’ll go on a ride through one of the last Shangri-Las in Southeast Asia, Luang Prabang. You’ll see some popular spots like Wat Visoun and Wat Aham, as well as the National Museum that used to be the royal family’s palace and has a huge collection of their mementos. Then head to Wat Xieng thong, which is considered the most beautiful temple in the area, and you’ll get to explore its peaceful grounds, including the royal funeral chapel, where you can have lunch in Laotian style. At the end of the day, you can relax in a private villa and watch the Baci Ceremony – a traditional way of celebrating important life moments.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic boat ride along the Mekong River at the end of the day to Ban Sing village in Lao Loum. From Ban Sing, take a scenic road to the waterfalls of Kuang Si, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch in the pools of the crystal-clear waterfalls.
Today you’re about to embark on an amazing elephant journey. You’ll be greeted warmly by the staff at MandaLao, where you’ll get an in-depth briefing on elephant behavior and communication. On your way, you’ll take a 2.5km hike through the beautiful Lao gardens, and then follow the river as you follow the elephants as they bathe. Along the way, you’ll get to see how mahouts communicate with their elephant charge.
Begin your day by taking in the panoramic view and watching the locals go about their daily business along the banks of the river. You will then arrive at your host’s Mekong Riverside residence for a warm welcome. You’ll also take a short walk to witness the morning ritual of “Tak Bat,” which is one of the most important Buddhist rituals in Laotian culture. The locals give alms to the monks in exchange for blessings of good fortune and wealth.
