experience Colombo city walk with Harold

Share

Colombo Walk is a great way to experience the heart of Sri Lanka’s largest city in a fun, fit way. Not only is this activity environmentally friendly, it is sustainable and educational for all age groups and fitness levels. This small family run initiative offers an enhanced experience to both locals and visitors, bringing out the vibrant colours and deep history that lies at the heart of Colombo.

The tours start daily at 6:45am at the entrance to the Old Dutch Hospital precinct.

Visitors can capture the essence of Colombo as the sun rises at the Colombo Lighthouse and then learn about the Arab, Portuguese, Dutch and British Colonisations. The Lady Ward Clock Tower, Fort Railway Station, and the Grand Red Mosque (better known as Jami UlAlfar Mosque) are just a few examples of the history left behind by these early colonies.

Taste a freshly cut King Coconut, or ‘Thambili’ as it’s locally known. Engulf yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of the Pettah Bazzar while you walk down Main Street and watch as the morning comes alive as people set up shop. Visit curiosities like the Largest Chandelier in South East Asia and view some of the ancient coins of Sri Lanka. The walk concludes just before 9:00am with a hearty Sri Lankan breakfast, wrapping up a day filled with unforgettable vibrancy and heritage.
