Calling All Coffee Lovers: 3-Day Pyin Oo Lwin Coffee Plantation Tour

Share

Visit the flower city of Pyin Oo Lwin and discover the true meaning of farm-to-table eating while tasting Myanmar coffee at one of the country’s premier coffee plantations. The 3-day tour starts with pickup from your hotel in Mandalay and driving out to Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo), a popular hill station about 69 kilometres away from Mandalay. Visit the local market and drive through the charming town in a horse-drawn stage coach. Next, head to the National Botanical Kandawgyi Gardens, home to a wide variety of colourful flora and fauna. Stay overnight at a colonial style boutique hotel.

The next day, visit Sithar coffee farm located in the hill town at 3,300 feet – an ideal place for coffee growing. Hike approximately two hours through lush tree-shaded coffee fields to discover how coffee plants are being grown and harvested. A local farmer will guide you through the process of milling green coffee beans before you have the chance to strap on a picking basket and begin picking the dark red ripe beans. Freshly roasted coffee will be cupped using a pour over technique for tasting before going to Pan Taw Win Restaurant to enjoy a delicious meal as well as the beautiful garden views. Visit the Peik Chin Myaung limestone stalactite cave to marvel at an underground stream and series of colourful scenes from Buddhist scriptures interspersed with stupas and Buddha images, before driving back to Mandalay the next morning.

The best time to visit the coffee farm is between November to March.
