In November, passengers will be able to travel from Beijing to Hong Kong via the much-awaited Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail.
The current train journey between the capital and the special administrative region takes roughly 24 hours. However, with the new route in place, the travel time will be slashed to less than nine hours. This includes an eight-hour trip on the Beijing West- Guangzhou South bullet train and a 48-minute trip from Guangzhou to Hong Kong along the new 26-kilometre section.
It is estimated that nearly 110,000 passengers per day will travel between Hong Kong and the mainland during the first year of operation. The fare is expected to be RMB 1,000 yuan (USD 146).
