Starting 15 November, passengers will be able to enjoy direct flights from Ho Chi Minh to Zurich operated by Edelweiss Air, a Swiss leisure airline company under Swiss International Air Lines. The flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Zurich are expected to operate twice a week on Tuesday and Friday. The new route will use the Airbus A340-300, which can carry 314 passengers.
CEO of Edelweiss Bernd Bauer has said that Vietnam is becoming an attractive destination for Swiss tourists and the company is aiming to bring 10,500 passengers to Ho Chi Minh city annually. Edelweiss’ objective seems to doable as in the first five months of 2018, the number of Swiss tourists coming to Vietnam reached 16.500 — a 4.2% increase from last year.
From Vietnam’s end, vice president of Switzerland Tourism Urs Eberhard noted that Vietnamese spent 15,000 nights in Switzerland in 2017, a healthy increase from 7,000 nights in 2014. Edelweiss is also looking forward to creating Vietnam–Switzerland tours by partnering with many local travel agents.
