explore Bawa’s architectural wonders in Sri Lanka

Share

Geoffrey Bawa is considered one of Asia’s most important and influential architects of the 20th century. A unique feature of his architectural style is that it erases the boundaries of ‘outside’ and ‘inside’ for living and working spaces and incorporates natural elements of sunlight, ocean breezes and flowing water.

For six days and five nights, experience Bawa’s designs and explore the cities in which they lay. Beginning at the beach town of Negombo, Sri Lanka’s ‘Little Rome’, witness the daily pilgrimage of fishermen while staying in one of Bawa’s first creations, the chic Jetwing Lagoon, with a view of the Indian Ocean.

The trip continues with a three-day stay in Dambulla, home to the Sigiriya Rock Formations, which are the eighth wonder of the world. Here guests also embark on a Minneriya Safari and visit the historic city of Polonnaruwa while enjoying the comfort of staying in Bawa’s Heritance Kandalama in the evenings.

On day four, journey to the colonial-style city of Kandy where to explore ancient monuments containing a sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, a delightful jumble of antique shops and buzzing markets. Stay overnight at the Kandy House.

Day five takes travellers to Kalutara, which is known for its Ayurvedic wellness retreats and tranquil spiritual and physical healing experiences. Visit the Lunuganga Estate and Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery then retire within the confines of simple elegance and superb craftsmanship of the Anantara Kalutara Resort.

The tour wraps up with a trip to the chic metropolitan city of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital. Visit the Gangaramaya Temple and Seema Malaka Shrine before boarding your departing flight.
