hike in the Shan Hills around Inle Lake

Share

The countryside of the Shan State offers some of the most stunning scenes in Myanmar, which make for spectacular pictures. Join a 2-day, 1-night exploration of the region visiting Nyaung Shwe, Loikhaw and local Pa-O people.

On the first day of the tour, be picked up from your hotel and taken to the starting point at the outskirts of Nyaung Shwe. Hike up into the hills until you arrive in Loikhaw, located about 14 kilometres from Nyaung Shwe. Lunch will be served at the community house, then the walk will continue up to the peak of the mountain and observe the way of life of Pa-O people.

The Pa’O people believe they are descendants of a dragon and wear unique representative clothing. The women’s colourful, conspicuous turbans represent the head of the female dragon, and their darker, four layers of clothing signify her numerous scales.

In the evening, take part in a small culture exchange ceremony with traditional dance and music.

On the second day, walk down to Pawlapat village where tea, orange, avocado and turmeric plantations are visible while descending the trail. Enjoy the view of the lake and walk down a rocky trail to Minethauk Bridge. Return to Nyaung Shwe by boat and transfer to your hotel. The village is developing community-based tourism projects and your visit will provide additional income in the villages to improve the livelihoods of villagers, generate employment opportunities, conserve natural recourses and the environment for the next generations while leaving you with unforgettable lifetime memories in the process.
