mid-autumn festival at Gardens by the Bay

Text: Celebrate the annual Mid-Autumn Festival at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay from 6 – 24 September 2018. Activities and events will heat up as the sun goes down with parades, elaborate lantern displays, night-time markets and more. Take in the decorative lights, some spanning 70 metres, and make time to wander through the pop-up market at the Supertree Grove, which will boast a gallery of colourful lanterns, plenty of tasty food, cultural performances and a traditional Chinese village perfect for photos and picking up some artisanal crafts.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Lantern displays

Celebrate an Autumn of Fantasies with dazzling lantern sets that bring together imaginary worlds and natural wonders. In “Leaping over the Dragon’s Gate”, our widest lantern set to date spanning 70m across water, carps brave the strong currents as they swim upstream towards the Dragon’s Gate in the hope of turning into a dragon. Other highlights include “The Phoenix and the Peony” which symbolises nobility, harmony and affluence, and “Wonders of the Underwater World”, a surreal undersea kingdom teeming with sea creatures.

Colonnade of lights

The Colonnade transforms into a resplendent gallery of lanterns, each hand-painted with love by the community.

Time: 7.00pm – 11.00pm

Venue: The Colonnade (Supertree Grove)

 

Wish upon a floating lotus

Set your wishes afloat on a lighted lotus lantern as it drifts along the beautiful Dragonfly Lake.

Time: 6.00pm – 10.00pm (Mon – Thu)

Food street

Indulge in a spread of local and Asian delights at the Supertree Grove!

Traditional Village

Marvel at the deftness of Chinese artisans as they create intricate dough figurines, sugar art and stone engravings. You can even try on traditional Chinese costumes and take a photo against elaborate lantern sets.

Cultural performances

Curated by National Arts Council and held on stage at the Supertree Grove, this series of performances showcases the life, vigour and diversity of traditional arts through innovative interpretations and cross-overs. Based on four sub-themes – Legends, Roots, Gatherings and Sparks – the performances bring familiar folk legends to life as friends and family celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival together.
