Using an algorithm to determine the quality and quantity of reviews received by Asia’s museums over a 12-month period, TripAdvisor found that the Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses near Xi’an was the highest ranked. This UNESCO World Heritage site contains life-sized statues of more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, dating back to the third century BC.
Two reminders of Southeast Asia’s turbulent recent history also ranked highly, with the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City second and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh third.
Another sobering “attraction”, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Japan, was fourth, and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi completed the top five.
Globally, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Art Institute of Chicago and State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg were the highest rated museums on TripAdvisor.
