visit the thousand linga river of kbal spean and the enchanting banteay srei

Share

Explore the beauty of two lesser visited sites in Siem Reap, the historical site of Kbal Spean and the enchanting Banteay Srei temple, with the help of an official ACCB environmental tour guide.

Begin this tour with a morning drive to the Kulen Mountain Range.

Walk 45 minutes through the forest to the top of the hill to reach Kbal Spean, the Thousand Linga River. There discover the 10th – 12th century sculptures chiselled from the rocky riverbed, the Royal Bath and the waterfall. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes for this excursion and carry your personal belongings (camera, water etc.) in a small daypack in order to have both hands free.

Enjoy lunch at local restaurant and then continue to the enchanting temple of Banteay Srei (10th century), which is regarded as the jewel in the crown of classical Khmer Art. The special charm of this temple lies in its remarkable state of preservation, small size and excellence of decoration.

Afterward, visit then Banteay Samre, built in the third quarter of the 12th century. It consists of a central temple with four wings preceded by a hall and accompanied by two libraries. The southern example is remarkably well preserved and two concentric walls enclose the ensemble. Return to Siem Reap at the end of the afternoon.
