mountain train from Sapa to Fansipan Station opens

Share

Muong Hoa, Vietnam’s longest mountain rail route opened on 31 March, connecting Sapa Town and the existing cable station to Fansipan Peak. Developed by the Sun Group, the two-kilometre rail route starts from MGallery Hotel in Sapa Town and ends at the cable station to Fansipan Peak, promising a spectacular journey for visitors.

The two-carriage train travels at a maximum speed of 10 metres per second and can transport up to 2,000 guests per hour. The route shortens travel times from 20 minutes by car over risky mountainous roads to four minutes by train through valleys, viaducts and tunnels, offering beautiful views of surrounding villages and nature.

The two carriages were designed and produced by Swiss company Garaventa. Each carriage is 20 metres by three metres and weighs 25 tonnes, capable of carrying 200 passengers at once. The carriages have classic European interiors with antique lights, ceiling fans and huge glass windows. At the Muong Hoa Cable Station, visitors can continue to take the cable route over the Hoang Lien Son range to reach Fansipan Peak, one of the highest in Indochina, reaching a height of 3,143 metres above sea level.
