Day 1

You’ll explore Xieng Khouang, a northern region that bears the scars of its turbulent past, as seen by massive bomb craters that still dot the landscape, vestiges of the Vietnam War. This has led to the establishment of Phonsavan, the new capital in this region steeped in history.

Day 2

Explore the mysterious Plain of Jars which is home to more than 250 enormous jars, the origin and purpose of which are unknown. Later, you’ll visit the historical capital of Xiang Khouang Province (Muang Khoune) where you’ll explore ancient temples and have lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Phonsavan.

Day 3

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a picturesque trek to Sam Neua, where you can explore the ancient art of weaving, a vital source of income, in the vicinity of Tham Piu cave and its surrounding areas. Witness the intricate craftsmanship of local families as they weave on looms, immersing yourself in a unique cultural experience while embarking on a captivating journey.

Day 4

Explore the site where the Lao people’s democratic Republic was born. On this day you’ll explore some of the important caves that were used during the war, like the “City of Victory” where the leader of the communist movement, Kaysone Phomvihane, used to hide. You’ll also make a stop at his house when we was the Laotian President, and learn about the revolutionary history of Laos and how it got to where it is today.

Day 5

Start your day with a refreshing bath at the hot springs close to Muang viengthong, then take a beautiful 5-hour boat ride to Nong Khiew, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant along the way. From there, hop on a local river boat to the Pak Ou cave, where you’ll see hundreds of Buddha statues before heading back to Luang prabang.

Day 6

Take a river boat ride to Ban Na Ngang, which is famous for its traditional weaving. Enjoy a magical experience on the water and a delicious lunch at a local bistro. From Ban Na Ngang you can take a local boat ride to Pak Ou Cave, which is home to thousands of Buddha sculptures. From Pak Ou cave you can take a river boat ride and visit the local rice wine-making village of Ban xhang Hai. From there you can go back to Luang prabang and visit the former royal capital’s gleaming temples and colonial architecture, as well as the beautiful mountains.

Day 7

Head to Wat Visoun to check out the oldest temple in the city and the amazing Singhalese stupa That Makmo. Then make your way to the Wat Aham to pay tribute to the spirits and ancestors of the city. For a panoramic view, take a hike up Wat Phous i Hill. Finally, make your way to Wat Mai to check out its five-story roof and grab a bite to eat at Le Café ban vat sene. From there, take a look at the impressive bronze Buddha statues at Wat Xieng thong, with a history-filled connection to Paris. Finally, enjoy a peaceful sunset at the Wat Prabang Tai along the peaceful Mekong River.

Day 8

You’ll spend this day exploring Luang Prabang’s rich culture by visiting the National Museum, which used to be the King’s Palace. You’ll find personal items from the Royal Family and special gifts from all over the world. Take a stroll through the picturesque old quarter to get a feel for the life of the villagers. If you have time, check out the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Center, where you can learn about the different ethnic backgrounds and traditional art of northern Laos through amazing exhibits.
