‘Underwater’ Hotel InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland Soon to Open

Share

In the fourth quarter of 2018, China’s financial capital is set to welcome InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, a luxury hotel that showcases an unconventional design and reflects the natural landscape of the former quarry it is built within.

Developed by Shimao Group and managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the new property is in the southwest of Shanghai within the Sheshan Mountain Range. It is 30 kilometres from the Hongqiao Airport and near attractions like the Sheshan National Park and the Chenshan Botanic Gardens.

This quiet luxury hotel features 336 rooms and suites with balconies where guests can enjoy panoramic views of the Shenkeng Quarry’s beautiful waterfalls and its exotic flora and fauna. With a construction area of more than 61,000 square metres, the hotel also offers a grand ballroom and four meeting rooms, including a Grand Ballroom, as well as world-class cuisine.

In contrast to the traditional architectural concept of high-rise buildings, InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland features an unconventional design that is complemented by the natural landscape of the quarry: 16 floors of the 18-storey hotel extend beneath the ground, two of which are completely under water.
