Witness Unique Tribal Performances at Anantara Hoi An

Share

A cultural event capturing the beauty and pride of Vietnam’s 54 tribes, the Ethnic Minorities Festival returns in a monthly format from January 31st, 2018 onward. A collaboration between Anantara Hoi An, the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Quang Nam Province and the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum, these performances showcase the richness and diversity of local ethnic minority groups. The events run in parallel with Hoi An’s lantern festivals, which take place on the 14th day of every lunar month when the moon is at its brightest.

Before the traditional dancing teams of Tay Giang, Dong Giang and Nam Giang districts take to the stage, guests are invited to browse the stalls of Anantara’s pop-up arts and crafts market where local artisans offer hand-embroidered batik pieces, original art, all-natural organic honey and locally-grown Robusta coffee. Also on exhibit is the original photography of Réhahn – a renowned French photographer who has spent years documenting Vietnam’s ethnic minorities, and one of the festival’s sponsors. His work offers insight into the daily life of these local communities and celebrates the richness and diversity of Vietnam’s ethnic cultures.

At sunset, a floating lantern ceremony kicks off at the Anantara jetty setting the Thu Bon River aglow in the shimmering light of dozens of colourful paper lanterns which slowly drift downstream followed by a sumptuous buffet dinner served at the Riverside restaurant.
